I can't get over how remote the Moors feel - and how they are like jewels within a desert of intensive agriculture - places where an abundance of wildlife is thriving. I am only now getting to know them, and there is so much to find out! such big areas, and in such a state of change - I will be fascinated to watch them develop, now that the peat stripping has stopped.

Isolation

28/06/2005

When you go onto the moors you can't hear the motorway, a car or anything. And quite suddenly a deer will come out of a copse. It's peaceful. I hope it's going to be a tourist attraction.

Access for children

It's not easy to take young children onto the moors especially without a car. Organised excursions for children would be a good idea.

Scrub Management

11/06/2005

The cotton grass cannot grow whilst the birch and the willow are taking all the water. The scrub needs to be managed to allow the bog to develop.
